WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Mallorca comes from the latin name “insula maior”, which means “the larger island”. Lateron is was called Maiorica, which means “the larger one” in comparison with the other islands Formentera, Ibiza and Minorca “the smaller one”. The capital of Mallorca is Palma, or Palma de Mallorca as you will.

Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Minorca together are the Balearic Islands archipelago. They are a part of Spain and consequently, Europe. The islands lie in the Mediterranean Sea. Since 1983, The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain.

People in Mallorca speak Spanish (also referred to as 'Castilian' or 'Castellano', a variety of the Spanish language spoken in central Spain) and Mallorquí, a local variant of Catalán which can change slightly depending on the location. Airport
Palma de Mallorca Airport IATA: PMI, ICAO: LEPA) is an international airport located 8 km east of the capital, Palma de Mallorca adjacent to the village of Can Pastilla. It is the third largest airport in Spain, after Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona. During the summer months it is one of the busiest airports in Europe. The airport was used by 26.2 million passengers in 2016. It has a VIP terminal.

Weather
The weather in Mallorca remains warm throughout the year. In the summer months temperatures can reach 40 ºC, although the averages are around 30 ºC. In December and January average night time lows drop to around 10 ºC. Sea temperatures are in the mid-20 ºC's. Mallorca barely has rainy days. Therefore it is the perfect choice for a summer holiday.
